Pantry Challenge Practical Food Skills Workshops
Cook more. Waste less. Spend less.
Pantry Challenge Practical Food Skills Workshops are hands-on food and budgeting sessions designed to help participants build confidence in the kitchen, make better use of the ingredients they already have, reduce food waste and make household food budgets stretch further.
The aim is not simply to teach participants how to follow a recipe. The workshops help participants learn how to think differently about food — how ingredients can be adapted, combined, substituted and used across different meals.
What participants will learn
- Practical everyday kitchen skills
- How to make ingredients stretch further
- How reducing food waste can save money
- How to use leftovers creatively
- How to adapt recipes and change flavours
- How to substitute ingredients where appropriate
- Portioning and making better use of food
- Basic food safety and kitchen efficiency
- How to look at what they already have before buying more
- Greater confidence making their own food choices
“In business, reducing waste creates profit. At home, reducing waste creates savings.”
Practical and hands-on
The workshops combine discussion, demonstrations and hands-on food preparation.
Participants are encouraged to experiment with ingredients, flavours and ideas rather than believing that a basic recipe has to be prepared exactly the same way every time.
The focus is on helping participants understand that one group of basic ingredients can create many different possibilities.
Inclusive and flexible
Workshops can be adapted to suit different abilities, learning needs and support requirements.
Allow approximately 3.5–4 hours, with additional time, demonstrations, breaks or assistance incorporated where needed so participants are able to work at a comfortable pace.
Pantry Challenge eBook included
Every participant receives a complimentary Pantry Challenge eBook.
The workshop also includes a short demonstration showing participants how to use the eBook and its interactive features so they can continue applying the skills at home.
Delivered at your location
Pantrix does not operate its own training kitchen.
Workshops are delivered at the client or organisation's location using suitable kitchen facilities supplied by the host.
This makes the workshops suitable for:
- Disability and support services
- Community organisations
- Employment and training programs
- Regional communities
- Local organisations
- Groups wanting practical food, budgeting and independent-living skills
Group size
Typical group size: approximately 10 participants for an interactive and engaging experience.
Workshop fee and pricing
Workshop fee: from $250 per participant.
Regional and remote workshops are available by arrangement. Flights, accommodation, vehicle hire, airport parking and other required travel costs are quoted separately once dates and location are confirmed.
Payment is required upfront once the final workshop and travel costs are agreed so travel arrangements and workshop requirements can be secured.
Multiple workshops
Where regional travel is required, organisations may arrange more than one workshop during the visit. This can allow several groups to participate while making better use of the regional travel costs.
